In January the Quali Middle East Association (QMEA) invited all interested companies in Egypt to attend an information seminar in Cairo. More than 200 participants, architects, coaters, and coating suppliers participated in the successful event. Albertus de Boer, IFO Middle East and responsible for training and seminars at QMEA, moderated and guided through the seminars and provided information on IFO-supported QMEA services in the area of Qualicoat, Qualanod and Qualisteelcoat.

From 15 to 17 November, SF China, the successful international trade fair for the coating industry, took place in Shanghai.
Companies from the fields of surface technology, corrosion protection, powder technology, robotics and environmental protection presented their know-how to the specialist audience. Also this year, the IFO Institute and Qubus were represented at the GSTC joint stand (German Surface Technology Center), the one-stop shop for surface technology. Marc Holz, Managing Director of IFO Germany, together with his colleagues from IFO and QUBUS in China, can look back on three successful and exciting traide fair days. Together with the companies Munk, Linhoff and Harter Drying Solutions, existing business relationships with customers and partners were cultivated and intensified at the fair, and many new contacts were made.

Derek Ding, IFO China, and Marc Holz, IFO Germany, participated in this year's ALPC 2017, the Aluminum Processing Technology Conference, in Dali, southern China. On two days, national and international speakers were invited and had the opportunity to give technologically oriented lectures in front of the representatives of the Chinese aluminum industry. The IFO Institute was also represented at the annual congress with a lecture: Almost 2,000 participants in the conference gained information on the subject of expert activity in Europe during the bilingual presentation by Marc Holz and Derek Ding.

With its new CNC slot mill, the IFO Institute is well equipped to meet the upcoming new requirements for the test procedure of the test according to ISO 12944-9. The draft standard now requires a milled scratch attachment: For optimum comparability of the test results, the mechanically generated scratch must be placed on each sample plate in such a way that it reaches down to the base material. All newly required standard specifications for cutting depth, alignment and dimensions are easily met by the milling machine used at IFO.

In May, the seminar on Safe and Efficient Powder Coating Process of the Quali Middle East Association (QMEA) took place in Dubai. The event, which was organized and held with the support of Albertus de Boer, IFO Middle East and responsible for training and seminars at QMEA, was attended by 71 interested participants from the aluminum sector. In addition to the specialist lectures, many participants welcomed the opportunity to gather ideas for their own work processes during the course of the event and to exchange their expertise.

On March 24 and 25, a two-day training session oft the Chinese Qualisino quality association took place in Hangzhou.

On the training course, Mr Holz from Qualisurfal chairmen and co-managing director of IFO, Ms. Li Yuan from Qualisino as well as Mr. Ding and Mr. Crane from the IFO lab passed on their knowledge of quality assurance in surface finishing processes.

The 52 participants took advantage of the time between lectures and specialist contributions to exchange experiences and information After the meeting, all participants were able to take a look at the practical lab operation by visiting the Laboratory of IFO China, where test equipment and laboratory methods were presented in detail.

Qualisino ist the general licensee in China for the internationally recognized quality marks QUALICOAT and QUALANOD.

QUALISTEELCOAT has released version 4.0 of their specifications. Meanwhile, more than 80 certified coating companies in 12 countries hold this quality label and about 100 coating systems of 25 material suppliers have been approved. The main objective was to improve structure and readability. Moreover, further coating systems have been adopted and an appendix about the implementation of EN 1090 has been added. The English version can be downloaded on www.qualisteelcoat.net , the German version on www.qib-online.de.

The Executive Board of Qubus GmbH and Ifo GmbH in Schwäbisch Gmünd have granted power of attorney to Nicole Kässer, head of commercial administration.

Since 2007 Nicole Kässer has been responsible for the joint administration of the two tightly-knit enterprises. For four years, she has been heading the commercial administration of the owner-managed service providers in surface engineering and is particularly responsible for the organization, management and controlling of the entire commercial administration as well as for calculation, controlling and budgeting.

The previous head of the body of experts, research and development has been appointed member of the executive board from 1^st August 2016 and took over the management of the worldwide acting testing institute together with Michael Müller, co-founder and managing partner of Ifo. Marc Holz, graduate chemist, thereby succeeds Hans Pfeifer who hands over the management of the institute due to his age.
